16 March 2020

This month I was honoured to attend a variety of events held by our local community organisations
aimed at raising funds and support for our fellow Australians affected by the bushfires.

On behalf of our community, I send my deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones in
these horrific fires, and extend my sincerest thanks to the volunteers and crews who risked their
lives to keep communities safe.

I recently spoke in Parliament on the generosity of our community, and thanked the many
organisations and individuals that go above and beyond to provide assistance where it is needed.

As always, the community of Forest Lake was especially generous, with a fantastic turnout at the
Australia Day Picnic, organised by our excellent local councillor, Charles Strunk, which raised over
$3000 for the bushfire appeal. The Forest Lake Uniting Church, Rotary Club of Forest Lake, Bank of
Queensland Forest Lake Branch, Heritage Bank Forest Lake, and many other groups, chipped in to
make the event a success and raise well above its target.

The Vietnamese Community in Australia – QLD Chapter hosted a night of entertainment and dinner
at La Bonne Saigon, Jindalee, to support our brave volunteers and Firies. Time and time again, the
Vietnamese community has shown how generous and kind they are when people in our country are
suffering.

Myself and Councillor Strunk joined the Leader of the Opposition, Anthony Albanese, recently to
meet with community’s residents to from them what the Federal Government can do to support the
aged care system. Over 100,000 Australians are waiting for home care packages and with an aging
population in our region, I wanted Anthony Albanese to hear firsthand the struggles that many
seniors are facing.
