Federal Member for Oxley Milton Dick MP and State Labor Candidate for Jordan Charis Mullen today welcomed Opposition Leader Bill Shorten to Woodcrest State College.
Fresh from Labor’s National School Forum earlier this week on Monday, Mr Shorten visited a year 7/8 class alongside school Principal Mr Pat Murphy.
Mr Dick said it was fantastic to show Mr Shorten one of the many amazing local schools.
“Woodcrest State College is an outstanding local school full of passionate and committed teachers” said Mr Dick.
“It’s essential that at a federal level we continue to give our schools the support and resources they need to ensure every student can make the most of their talents.
“Unfortunately Malcolm Turnbull doesn’t share our commitment to school funding with $560 million dollars to be cut for Queensland schools over the next ten years.
“I was proud to introduce Bill to teachers and students at Woodcrest State College today, however we must ensure that all of our local schools are getting the funding they deserve”.
State Labor Candidate for Jordan Charis Mullen said access to a quality education was essential for every Queensland student.
“Woodcrest State College is a great local school with amazing teachers and students” said Ms Mullen.
“It is so important that we invest in education for our children to give Queensland students the skills and knowledge they need to meet the challenges of the future”.
The class included over 20 students who will be visiting Canberra next week and were disappointed that Parliament had been cancelled by the Prime Minister.
Mr Shorten however pledged to meet with the students on the day they visited Parliament House.
